24 hours after the fire which partially destroyed the Kabana Beach restaurant on November 5, 2024, an individual was arrested yesterday. The mayor of the commune of Port-Louis, Jean-Marie Hubert also reacted, in a press release, considering himself the victim of “slanderous allegations”.

As soon as the fire broke out on November 5, the owner of the Kabana Beach restaurant, Nicolas Sémar, indicated that an individual had been seen on the premises, setting the fire. He was also surprised that this man had not yet been arrested.
It is now done. Yesterday (Wednesday 6 November) an arrest was made and the man was taken into custody.
His hearing should allow us to learn more about his motivations.
A suspect who is also mentioned by the mayor of the town, Jean-Marie Hubert. In a press release, he begins by expressing himself on “the excitement on social networks and in the media which once again relays slanderous allegations and defamatory remarks”, reserving the right to initiate defamation proceedings. . He believes that he and his team have been “targeted by these allegations“.
He then mentions the suspect, writing that this would not be his first attempt.
The individual (also a former Kabana employee) designated by the victims as the arsonist, committed an attempted fire on September 3, 2024 against service vehicles and municipal staff. This event occurring following numerous other incidents, a complaint was filed with the prosecutor on September 9, 2024.

Jean-Marie Hubert insists, in his press release, on the “reality of the facts”, on the “truth”. In this sense, he announces having “called on the prosecutor so that all light can be shed on this fire, that is to say, on the conditions which allowed an intrusion into this establishment protected by numerous cameras and on the reasons for such an act“.
Tuesday evening, firefighters responded to a fire at the “Kabana Beach” restaurant. According to the emergency services, the fire started in the kitchen before spreading to an area leading to the dining room.
The firefighters quickly managed to bring the fire under control, and fortunately. The disaster caused no casualties.
