Donald Trump wins Alaska, Kamala Harris leads in Maine

Kamala Harris narrows the gap to the winner a little. The Democratic candidate for the American presidential election won, Thursday, November 7, the last two electors who had not yet been designated in Maine, reported the Associated Press agency. She thus wins three of the four major voters at stake in this state, one of only two in the country to use proportional representation. President-elect Donald Trump won the fourth, as well as the three electoral votes in Alaska, now totaling 295 electoral votes, compared to 226 for his defeated rival. Follow our live stream.

Results still awaited in two states and in the House of Representatives. The outcome of the vote in two key states, Nevada (6 electors) and Arizona (11 electors), has not yet been revealed. Whatever it is, the overall result of the election will not change: it will be Donald Trump who will be sworn in on January 20. The stakes are much higher in the House of Representatives, where the Republicans hope maintain their slim majority, which would guarantee Donald Trump and his party total control of the American Congress. The final result could come after long days of counting.

Joe Biden must speak to the Americans. The outgoing Democratic president will address the Americans on Thursday (5 p.m. time) to “talk about the results of the election and the transition” with the next Republican administration. Wednesday evening, he greeted “integrity, courage and temperament” of Kamala Harris, who acknowledged her defeat and urged her supporters to “continue the fight”.

The Chinese president congratulates Donald Trump. Xi Jinping sent his congratulations to the American president-elect on Thursday. He called on both countries to “get along” and to “manage their differences correctly”after years of bilateral tensions. “History has shown that China and the United States benefit from cooperation and lose from confrontation”he declared to his future counterpart, saying he wanted “strengthen dialogue and communication”.

Volodymyr Zelensky talks about his “cooperation” with the president-elect. The Ukrainian President claimed, Wednesday evening, to have had a “excellent” telephone exchange with Donald Trump. “We agreed to maintain close dialogue and advance our cooperation”he declared on X. “Strong and steadfast leadership from the United States is essential for our world and for a just peace”he assured.
