The political program for the day after the elections is quite busy. After an electoral evening animated by the announcement of the results and the speeches of party officials, many personalities gave interviews early this morning. Most parties also meet to discuss the results and possibly make decisions.

But all the attention will be focused on King Philip. The sovereign will indeed meet different personalities this Monday.

What is the role of the king after the elections?

Alexander De Croo has resigned

Prime Minister Alexander De Croo was the first to go to the Palace, around 11:30 a.m. He handed in the resignation of his government, which the King accepted. Alexander De Croo will, however, remain Prime Minister pending the new government.

The rest of the program

At 1 p.m., the King will receive the President of the Senate Stephanie D’Hose then the President of the Chamber Eliane Tillieux at 1:30 p.m.

Consultations will then continue with the presidents of the parties which have the largest number of seats following these elections. From 2:30 p.m., King Philippe will successively meet Bart De Wever, Tom Van Grieken then Georges-Louis Bouchez.
