Hearing of Samuel Eto’o by Caf and the deliberations

The hearing of Samuel Eto’o Fils aroused particular attention in Cameroon and well beyond the borders. Since then, it has been radio silence. Everyone remains attentive to what will come out of Caf. For some, the wait is long while for others, the body wants to take measures based on the elements exposed during the discussions. Indeed, it is since June 25, 2024 that the president of Fécafoot has appeared before the CAF disciplinary jury. He had to answer questions related to match fixing among others. The case was brought forward by certain local football players. Four days later, the suspense remains. The CAF website is closely scrutinized by Cameroonian football players so as not to miss anything of this soap opera.

Armel Kenne, one of Samuel Eto’o’s fervent supporters, is confident. He does not hesitate to tell anyone who will listen that “his idol will do well as a good striker”. For him Eto’o will emerge from this affair cleared. He is quickly picked up by his interlocutor, Idriss Noah in the Emana district. The latter considers that the accusations are serious. We will have to wait for the deliberations. The CAF Disciplinary Code does not provide for anything on the question of the time limit for deliberations. In reality, the passage before the disciplinary jury is well organized by article 49 of the disciplinary code of the governing body.

The Disciplinary Council shall deliberate in camera. The President may, upon request, authorize observers to a hearing by invitation only, but his decision in this regard shall be final and binding. If oral statements have been heard, they shall be immediately followed by deliberations. They shall take place without interruption, except in exceptional circumstances. The President shall decide in what order the various questions shall be submitted for deliberation. The members present shall express their opinions in the order set by the President, who shall always speak last. The secretary who prepared the file shall participate in the meetings of the Council without the right to vote.

Article 50 of this same text also presents the method of making the final decision after the hearings. All members are called to take part in the deliberations.

Decisions are taken by a simple majority of members present. Each member present votes and cannot abstain. In the event of a tie, the President’s vote is decisive.
