In the parking lot in front of the polling station, there was a booth of pro-Harris activists and four booths of pro-Trump activists. The senator spoke for about twenty minutes with the latter, one of whom had a pistol in his belt. “It pissed me off.”confides the observer. “When I asked them what they would do if Trump lost, the answer was clear: “We will fight.” They spoke of waging armed resistance across the United States, preparing for what they called a “counterplot.” They also plan sweeping measures against those they consider traitors within the government, citing “Project 2025” to replace current officials with loyal supporters and, potentially, punish traitors with the death penalty.

Rural world vs. urban world

The second part of the day, Malik Ben Achour returned to Las Vegas to observe the electoral process. In the new Raiders stadium transformed into a voting center, the atmosphere is completely different. Here, “democratic values are more visible there, and the diversity of the population recalls a more familiar universe, where no one is armed and where we find citizens of all origins.”

This contrast highlights the deep division of the country, where the opposition between rural and urban world is obvious.“The further you get from Las Vegas, the more pro-Trump signs you see.”
