- It is voting day in France, and in around twenty countries on the European continent, Sunday June 9, to decide on the configuration of the future European Parliament. On the occasion of these elections, 49.5 million voters are called to the polls in France to decide between the thirty-eight lists which presented themselves for this ballot – a record. Polling stations opened at 8 a.m. and most close at 6 p.m. In some major cities, they stay open until 8 p.m.
- In France, where 81 MEPs will be elected for a five-year mandate, the vote takes place in a single constituency using one-round proportional representation. Voters vote for lists whose order or composition they cannot modify. For a list to obtain MEPs, it must reach the threshold of 5% of votes cast.
- The first estimates in France will be released around 8 p.m. While some European countries have voted in recent days – such as the Netherlands on Thursday for example – the results will be revealed in the Twenty-Seven as the evening progresses on Sunday.
