The PS wants to post electoral “door hangers” this Saturday before 10 p.m.: the mayor of Etterbeek forbids it!

A few hours before the regional election, all means are being deployed by the political parties to convince the last undecided people who will vote this Sunday. We must act quickly because, from this Saturday at 10 p.m., all campaign actions are prohibited by police order from the Minister-President of Brussels, including “the distribution of leaflets, photos or electoral material”. In this race against time, the Brussels PS had the idea of carrying out one last strong action before 10 p.m. In an internal email, sent on June 6 and revealed on social networks, the party asks “comrades” to “come and collect the door hangers today before 5 p.m. from the party” and place them on the doors of homes. In this email, it is clearly specified to “do not hang up after 10 p.m.”.

In response, the mayor of Etterbeek, Vincent De Wolf (MR), also a candidate in the regional elections, took a radical measure in his commune this Friday, June 7: by police decree, he prohibited “any clash of a electoral support at the doors of homes in Etterbeek” with “immediate effect and until Sunday 4 p.m.”. To take this measure, it relies on general police regulations common to the 19 municipalities. In the argument, he emphasizes that “the action appears to specifically target doors which are accessible directly from the street” and therefore falls within the public domain. Furthermore, he adds “that the supports (…) are clearly likely to end up on the ground” and therefore could also pose a cleanliness problem.

End of campaign atmosphere…
