After the success of the educational booklets Discovering on dragonflies, reptiles, bats and mammals of the department, the fifth volume of this collection published by Deux-Sèvres Nature Environnement is devoted to butterflies. It has just been published and is available at DNSE headquarters, in independent bookstores and in some nature-related tourist sites.
The guide, printed in a thousand copies and sold for €15, is absolutely remarkable, just like its magnificent cover photo. “ This work lists the 119 species of Deux-Sèvres – including 19 completely extinct and 36 highly threatened -, the biology of butterflies, the places where they can easily be observed as well as the means to recognize and encourage them.explains Clara Schnapper, project manager at DSNE.
It was Antoine Guyonnet, a distinguished self-taught lepidopterist made available by his employer to Macif as a patron, who refined the census resulting from decades of naturalist observations by DSNE. “The butterflies are in danger. The loss in volume is estimated at 80%. As for species, almost half have disappeared or are threatened. »
“Day butterflies are one of the groups that DSNE has studied the most over the last fifteen years, says Clara Snapper. They are among the best known and emblematic of wild pollinators and fascinate with their diversity of shapes and colors. » The guide gives an exhaustive and educational vision.
