Almost all of the municipalities concerned are affected by the floods and mudslides which took place from October 16 to 20, 2024. This decision paves the way for insurance compensation.
The state of natural disaster was recognized in nearly 380 municipalities, according to a decree published in the Official Journal on Tuesday, mainly for the exceptional floods that occurred from October 16 to 20 and which particularly affected the Center-East and the South. This text, which concerns 11 departments, opens the way to insurance compensation. The municipalities concerned are located in Ardèche, Rhône, Loire, Alpes-Maritimes, Yvelines, Essonne, Lozère, Loire-Atlantique, Eure-et-Loir, Haute-Loire and Corrèze.
Almost all of the municipalities concerned are affected by floods and mudslides over the period from October 16 to 20, 2024. The Center-East was particularly affected, especially Ardèche. In total, more than a thousand people were evacuated, roads, railways and schools were closed and several thousand homes were deprived of electricity. Météo-France had indicated that Ardèche had been affected by the Cévennes episode “the most intense ever recorded over two days since the beginning of the 20th century”. The increase in natural disasters goes hand in hand with global warming.
