The Frenchies’ favorite pair of “flat shoes” are adorned with a color that makes the French look redden.

For several seasons now, two trends have coexisted: ballerinas and the color red. So why not mix the two? It’s the latest gimmick that’s all the rage in the streets of Paris and everywhere else in France. Red ballerinas are already validated by a large number of people, including influencers Sabina Socol, Anne-Laure Mais and Valérie Tribes. And that’s no coincidence. Despite the controversy, these scarlet shoes were omnipresent on the catwalks of previous Fashion Weeks. We found them on the Gucci 2015 Cruise collection, in a version with a silver “bit”. But also at Simone Rocha, who upgraded these flat shoes with a total red look, blouse with massive bow and mini shorts. A subtle way of breaking the classic DNA of these slippers, once used by Paris Opera dancers, with a touch of glamour.

How to wear red ballerinas this summer?

To best adopt the trend of red ballerinas, you can turn to several models. Some people like them classic, in leather, topped with a small elastic bow. Still others prefer them with straps, suede, kitten heels, or patent leather, according to French tradition. The latest trend is also transparent red ballerinas, the ally of the daring. But no matter which option you turn to, it’s not always easy to know how to wear them. The watchword for French style? Minimalism. Opt for simple pieces from your wardrobe like bootcut jeans, a long, straight white dress, or a pair of ecru shorts for summer. The effect will always be there. To challenge yourself, however, you can also go for a total red look with a light skirt-jacket set, or bring back the tones with a matching top. The color of love is waiting for you.
