Scheduled for last week then postponed to Wednesday, the Copa del Rey match between Valencia and the Parla Escuela club has been postponed again. The Valencians have won their case with the Spanish Football Federation after the deadly floods of recent days.
Valencia's Copa del Rey match against fans at Parla Escuela, rescheduled for Wednesday after violent floods which caused at least 217 deaths last week in southern Spain, has been postponed to November 26.
The Spanish club had requested this Monday from the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) the postponement of this meeting which was to be played this Wednesday, November 6, and was heard. Other Copa del Rey matches of teams in the region are also postponed to later dates.
“Football is relegated to the background”
In a statement, Valencia “understands that in this time of great difficulty, all energies, attention and support must be focused on helping those affected by the tragic event of DANA (name given to depression atmospheric at the origin of the floods, Editor's note)” and believes that “football is relegated to the background”.
“We would like to send our most sincere condolences and our affection to the families, loved ones of the deceased and the victims of this disaster which leaves us devastated,” added the Valencian club, whose La Liga match against Real Madrid was also postponed.
Several initiatives from clubs or players to help the victims
Several La Liga coaches and players felt this weekend that the league matches should not have been played in tribute to the victims, notably Atlético Madrid coach Diego Simeone, for whom there was “no sense ” to maintain this championship day, just like his Real Madrid counterpart Carlo Ancelotti, who believes that “no one should have played this weekend”.
La Liga president Javier Tebas responded that “the best message” was “not to stop, except in the affected areas”, by sharing a Red Cross donation call number.

Several clubs provided support to the affected regions through food harvests and essential materials. Real Madrid made a donation of one million euros and FC Barcelona announced that it would auction the jerseys worn by its players in the Catalan derby against Espanyol on Sunday (3-1) to raise funds.
In France, Nantais Pedro Chirivella mobilized his partners at the Canaries to help the victims. Originally from Valencia, the 27-year-old organized a clothing drive after learning of the tragedy in the South-East of Spain.
