In a press release, the latter’s relatives confirm that Ben “killed himself” in his house in Nice. A tragic outcome, guided by another tragedy: the stroke of Ben’s wife, Annie Vautier, which occurred this Monday, June 3.

“She died on June 5 at 3 a.m.. Unwilling and unable to live without her, Ben killed himself a few hours later at their home, in Saint-Pancrace in the heights of Nice,” writes in a press release from the family of the artist who died at the age of 88.

Strong emotion gripped the people of Nice this Wednesday after the announcement of the death of the artist known to all for his legendary white sentences written on a black background. “Geniuses never stay alone. We will remember Annie and Ben Vautier as an emblematic couple of 20th century art,” said their family.
