On the night of Saturday and Sunday, a shooting took place at a wedding in Thionville, in Moselle. One injured person, whose life was in danger on Sunday, succumbed to his injuries. The toll now stands at two dead and four injured, indicated the Jirs of Nancy, in charge of the investigation which is leaning towards organized crime.

One of the victims whose vital prognosis was in jeopardy on Sunday, after a shooting during a wedding in Thionville (Moselle), died, bringing the toll to two dead and four injured, said Monday the Jirs of Nancy, in charge of the investigation which focuses on organized crime.

On the night of Saturday to Sunday, around 1:00 a.m., four people attending a wedding reception were shot. Two of them died from their injuries. “For two other victims, initially hospitalized in a state of absolute emergency, the prognosis is no longer life-threatening,” said Vincent Légaut, deputy prosecutor in Nancy, in a press release.

Two other people also suffered minor injuries, due in particular to shards of glass, indicated the Specialized Interregional Jurisdiction (Jirs) of Nancy, which opened an investigation for “murder by an organized gang and attempted murder by an organized gang” .

“Three hooded men shot at people who were outside”

The events occurred at the Eden Palace, a reception hall specializing in weddings in a commercial area of Thionville. Around a hundred guests were present, coming, according to the mayor of Thionville Pierre Cuny, from the metropolitan area of Metz.

“Three hooded men, dressed in black, heavily armed, appeared in front of the entrance to the room and fired at people who were outside,” the court explained on Sunday, mentioning “several dozen rounds of ammunition” fired. Three attackers arrived in a 4×4, “probably a BMW,” according to a police source. They fled before the emergency services arrived.

“Very clearly, we are moving towards a settling of scores against a backdrop of drug trafficking,” a source said on Sunday. “The wedding was not targeted as such, it was people who were at the wedding.” The border area of Lorraine is plagued by drug trafficking. In May 2023, in Villerupt, in the neighboring department of Meurthe-et-Moselle, gunfire between rival gangs at a drug dealing point left five people injured.
