This Friday at 9:00 p.m., OL will travel to Lille for the show of the week in Ligue 1, a decisive shock in their attempt to climb back into the first half of the table.
After a series of five victories, OL suffered their first defeat in the Europa League against Besiktas and were held to a draw by Auxerre last Sunday. Currently 7th in the championship, the players of Pierre Sage will travel to the Pierre-Mauroy stadium for a match which promises to be intense and difficult for the Lyonnais.
Indeed, the Mastiffs are in great form with a series of seven consecutive matches without defeat, including a notable victory against Real Madrid in the Champions League. Lille also became the first Ligue 1 team in ten years to score in added time and win with several goals against Lens (2-0). This impressive journey makes the challenge even more important for the Lyonnais.
Although Lille seems intimidating, recent confrontations often turn in favor of OL. The Rouge et Bleu have lost only one of the last six meetings against the Mastiffs and have also avoided defeat in seven of their last eight trips to Lille.
But OL will have to raise their level of play again. The points lost during recent meetings have left some frustration in the Lyon camp. “Every match is important and none is easy. We lost points against teams ranked lower than us. We will have to work hard to face Lille, a successful team at home, and give 110%. We won there- low last year, so we'll use these next few days to prepare well.”clarified Nicolas Tagliafico.
“We need to control matches better to be successful. Managing certain key moments is essential, while keeping in mind our ability to score at any time. You have to be patient. In today's football, you have to be disciplined to perform”added the Argentinian.
The biggest shock of the weekend in Ligue 1 will undoubtedly be this Friday evening between these two teams. With 14 points, OL hope to get closer to the top of the table while Lille, with 17 points, wants to grab third place.
