This Saturday, there were hundreds of participants for this competition, which is very popular in Lot-et-Garonnais.

Rugby sevens is increasingly being highlighted with the results of the French team, crowned world champion last weekend in Madrid, with a view to the Paris Olympic Games. This practice has also been attracting the amateur world for several years.

17 teams in total

The Challenge created in tribute to the emblematic player of the RCBB and the “Hôpitaux Agenais”, who passed away in 2015, is very popular with teams in the region. Masterfully organized by Lucas and Axel Bassi, Thierry’s children, with the help of RCBB volunteers, the 2024 edition was a success. 17 teams of ten players, a cadet team, junior teams, a women’s team, the participants brought the ball to life for the greatest pleasure of a knowledgeable public.

Among the favorites, we met in a team with a strong Layracaise coloring two former members of the French rugby sevens team who had participated in the Rio 2016 Games, Vincent Inigo and Damien Cler. It was ultimately other layracais, “Les Trompettes” who won the 2024 edition. The atmosphere of the 7-a-side tournaments was hugely popular. 200 meals served at lunchtime on the sidelines, a hundred in the evening for the closing. Great success.
