A father who did not want his daughter to marry a man 38 years her senior stabbed the groom during the wedding ceremony which turned into a nightmare on Saturday.
The story took place in a French village in Tarn-et-Garonne, in Occitanie, while the mayor of the municipality was preparing to preside over the wedding ceremony, according to the media France Bleu.
“This week, the bride and groom were happy because they were going to get married, but the father was not happy with this marriage. He put a lot of pressure on himself, he didn’t want his daughter to marry such an old man,” said Jean-Louis Dupont, mayor of Faudoas.
Saturday in front of the steps of the town hall, everything was ready to celebrate the marriage between the 25-year-old woman and her 63-year-old fiancé, a prospect to which the father of the bride is categorically opposed.
Against all expectations, furious, the father of the bride rushed at his son-in-law, showing two knives before stabbing him seven times, causing general panic among the guests, some of whom were also injured.
“I tackled him to the ground by blocking him with my knee while the town secretary called the firefighters and the police,” the municipal councilor, a former rugby player, explained to the French media.
Previously, the attacker tried by all means to derail his daughter’s marriage, under the pretext that her fiancé is too old for her, but the two lovebirds wanted to get married at all costs.
The victim was transported to a hospital, while the attacker father was arrested by the gendarmes and placed in police custody, pending the conclusion of the investigation opened for this purpose, according to the French media.
