Four lives that have come to an end. And how many others broken by this tragedy? On the night of Saturday June 1 to Sunday June 2, four young people died in a road accident in Libourne, a few kilometers east of Bordeaux (Gironde). They were aged 16, 19 and 20. Only one of the five passengers survived the terrible impact against a tree planted along the ring road. If his vital prognosis is not in jeopardy, the latter “suffers from numerous fractures”, according to the public prosecutor of Libourne Loïs Raschel. His testimony could be crucial for investigators, who are seeking to understand how the vehicle was able to leave the D1089 departmental road.

According to a Source close to the case, the hypothesis of a “loss of control of the vehicle after a chase between young people” is raised at this stage by the investigators. The gendarmes believe that the drivers could potentially participate in a “game”. The outcome of which turned out to be dramatic. Two people “driving other vehicles” were taken into custody on Sunday afternoon, added the magistrate, who opened an investigation for “involuntary manslaughter”.

According to the mayor of Libourne Philippe Buisson, the victims came from Coutras, a small town located in the northeast of Gironde. “The violence of the shock was such that I am going to mobilize a psychological unit for first responders from the emergency and gendarmerie services,” said the elected official.
