For the murder of Renaud Leprince – a 66-year-old from Pau – preceded by acts of torture and barbarity, Leïla Abaiji and Sofiane Triboulet were sentenced to life imprisonment by the Pyrénées-Atlantiques Assize Court. In this case, the attorney general requested this sentence for the two defendants. The verdict fell on the night of Friday May 31 and Saturday June 1. “Madame Abaiji was prepared for this eventuality, but she is obviously dejected. We are still talking about perpetuity. A request for appeal will be filed on Monday,” says Me Raina.

Throughout their trial, the two accused continued to blame each other for this crime committed in October 2020. Before the court, Jean Hiquet, forensic doctor, spoke at length about the injuries inflicted on Renaud Leprince. On the victim’s body, the expert counted at least 34 wounds – half of which were around ten centimeters deep – but also multiple fractures on the face. Glass was also found in the digestive and respiratory tract of Renaud Leprince.

According to the specialist, the man was still alive when he ingested this material. The sixty-year-old was found dead in his apartment on rue Léon-Say, in Pau. The death dates back to the night of October 12, 2020.

five days of trial

The nature of the relationship between the accused Leïla Abaiji and the victim Renaud Leprince has not been clarified. For those close to the deceased, the two were in a relationship. Acquaintances from those around her suggest that the accused took advantage of the financial resources of the sixty-year-old. However, no motive has clearly emerged.

At the end of these five days of trial, it is difficult to determine with certainty the author of the murder of Renaud Leprince. Two camps faced each other: the defenses each pleaded the thesis of the sole author. For his part, the attorney general favored a crime carried out jointly by Leïla Abaiji and Sofiane Triboulet.
