June 1, 2024 marks several important changes in France. Here’s what comes into effect this Saturday.

Mandatory addressing for all homes

As of June 1, all residences in France must have a precise address, in accordance with the “3DS” law (differentiation, decentralization, deconcentration and simplification) promulgated in February 2022. This measure aims to facilitate the distribution of mail, the deployment of optical fiber and the intervention of relief. At the end of 2023, around 1.8 million French people did not have a precise address and will now have to update their address with the services and administrations concerned.

Use of the Pass’Sport

THE Pass’Sport, aid of €50 per child to finance registration in a sports structure, can be used from June 1 and until December 31, 2024. Eligible families received a code by email from the Ministry of Sports and the Olympic Games and Paralympics. If this is not the case, they will be able to recover their code by connecting to the Pass’Sport portal at the beginning of September. Beneficiaries include children and young people born between 2006 and 2018 receiving various allowances, as well as scholarship students up to 28 years old.

Increase in gas prices

Gas prices including tax increase by €2/MWh on June 1, i.e. an increase of 2.3% in the average benchmark price excluding tax and 1.8% for the average benchmark price including tax. This increase, indicated by the Energy Regulatory Commission, is due to a slight increase in wholesale market prices of natural gas, after a decline since the end of 2023. Since the removal of regulated gas sales prices in July 2023 , the Commission publishes benchmark prices each month for information purposes.

Ban on new cannabis derivatives

From June 3, new cannabis derivatives, such as the semisynthetic cannabinoids H4-CBD and H2-CBD as well as purely synthetic cannabinoids, will be banned due to their health risks. The National Medicines Safety Agency (ANSM) recently included them on the list of narcotics. These products are frequently sold online and in CBD stores in various forms, such as oils, herbs, gummies, and e-cigarette liquids.

End of tax returns

Tax filing season is coming to an end. The period for filing paper declarations ended on May 21. For online declarations, the deadlines vary depending on the departments: until May 30 for departments 20 to 54, and until June 6 for departments 55 to 976. Non-residents and departments 1 to 19 had until May 23 to declare online.
