The price of soft wheat falls to 250 dirhams per quintal despite the repercussions of the drought.

The harvest season continues in Morocco, with production expected below normal this year, but certainly better than the previous agricultural season marked by irregular rainfall.

Despite forecasts of a decline in cereal production this year, this has not affected the selling price of wheat, whether soft or hard, on the wholesale cereal and pulse markets.

In addition, the selling prices of soft wheat and durum wheat have seen a notable drop, falling between 2.4 and 2.5 dirhams per kilogram for soft wheat, commonly called “farina”, the quintal being thus sold between 240 and 250 dirhams.

As for the selling price of durum wheat on wholesale markets, it also fell to around 3.5 to 3.7 dirhams per kilogram, or 350 to 370 dirhams per quintal.

This drop in wheat sales prices in Morocco is due to the strategy adopted by the authorities, taking advantage of Morocco’s strong international relations and importing large quantities of wheat from foreign markets, while many countries are rushing to import and store wheat to avoid global fluctuations that make importing wheat difficult for most countries.

Additionally, the recent rains that have drenched our country over the past two months have given hope to farmers and revived a large number of farmlands under wheat cultivation, helping to improve forecasts that this year’s harvest will be much better than the previous year.
