One morning in 1921, a fire broke out in a horse stable located on rue de l’Église.
Immediately, the tocsin sounded and all the available Rignacois and volunteers, armed with buckets, went to the scene of the disaster. But the fire spread quickly and fearing a fire in the surrounding “block” of houses, we called on the company of Rodez firefighters who, despite all their dedication, did not arrive on the scene until three hours later.
This disaster having caused great emotion among the local population, Mayor Casimir Fraysse proposed to the municipal council to acquire a fire pump to fight more effectively against this type of disaster.
In 1924, the Rignac rescue center was established and Émile Imbert was appointed chief of the Rignac fire brigade.
Saturday June 1st, our Rignac firefighters will present a retrospective of 100 years through various exhibitions and activities.
The program
At 10 a.m.: opening ceremony of the 100th anniversary day with review of the troops, laying of wreaths and tribute to deceased firefighters, honor of the departmental flag, speeches, reception.
From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.: events and exhibitions on the theme of firefighters, photo exhibition in 12 large format panels created by Gérard Marty, exhibition of fire engines (old and current), demonstration and filling of an old hand pump fed with canvas buckets and extinguishing a real fire (11:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m.), creation of a triptych fresco by the graphic designer Süla, exhibition of 800 miniature firefighter vehicles, demonstration of life-saving gestures , firefighter course for adults and children, climbing wall (8 meters) for children, fast food on site. Open to everyone. Free admission.
