The body of a man who had been dead for ten days was found by police in an apartment in downtown Narbonne.
Friday, October 18 in the evening, the police were called by a lady who reported a strong, nauseating odor emanating from the apartment next to hers, in a building in downtown Narbonne. The police entered and discovered a man dead on the bed. The smell given off by the corpse suggested a death that had occurred around ten days earlier.
In preventive detention
This apartment was occupied by two men, two roommates aged between 40 and 50 years old. The apartment was in an indescribably filthy state. Neighbors described a usual noxious atmosphere, with lots of alcohol and frequent scenes of violence. Both men lived in absolute poverty. The police could not find out why the other tenant had not reported the death. He was placed in police custody, then was able to benefit from a psychiatric consultation. At the end of police custody, he was interviewed by an investigating judge. This man, whose record is very long and carries numerous convictions for acts of violence, was indicted and imprisoned. An investigation has been opened. Autopsy results are expected within the week.
