Dogs, cats, parrots, horses… In this association, these abandoned animals are all named after the American actor. It's actually a birthday present from his friend and on-screen partner Rob McElhenney.

American actor Ryan Reynolds was offered a rather surprising birthday gift from his friend Rob McElhenney. For his 48th birthday, his on-screen partner in the film Deadpool has signed a partnership with the American animal protection association Best Friends Animal Society. The goal? Rename all animals “Ryan Reynolds” so that they have more visibility to be quickly adopted, as revealed by our colleagues at Huffington Post.

“One of the greatest gifts of my life”

It was Ryan Reynolds himself who shared this astonishing anecdote on his Instagram account, explaining that he had received “one of the greatest gifts of (his) life”. The actor posted a video in which Rob McElhenney is seen explaining his gesture while cuddling a puppy. In a tone of irony, he says he wanted to offer “unconditional love” to his friend for his birthday, but preferred to offer this love to animals who need a home. “If everyone had their own Ryan Reynolds, they could shower them with love and affection,” he jokes.

All the animals of the association renamed

All of the association's animals have therefore been renamed after the ultra-popular actor in Hollywood: horses, rabbits, pigs, donkeys, and even parrots! But behind the joke, there is actually a message of commitment to the animal cause. The operation was even called “Adopt A Ryan” (Editor's note: adopt a Ryan): Internet users who have adopted an animal named Ryan are invited to share the photo of their new companion on social networks by sharing the hashtag #AdoptaRyan . In the video, Rob McElhenney also indicates that for each dollar donated to the association as part of this operation, he himself would donate a dollar, for a maximum sum of 25,000 dollars (the equivalent of more than 23,000 euros ). An original way to say the least to raise awareness about the adoption of abandoned animals.
