They woke up suddenly in the middle of the night. The inhabitants of Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) were awakened from their sleep by loud detonations during the night from Sunday to Monday. On social networks, some people were wondering about the origin of these noises, similar to “explosions“, according to Internet users. A column of smoke was also visible to the north of the town, suggesting the hypothesis of a fire starting.
After verification, these successive detonations are in fact linked to a fire. As reported by France Bleu and France 3 Occitanie, the flames ravaged during the night a warehouse of a company specializing in public works, near the Balma-Gramont metro stop. According to firefighters, the place was home to vehicles, including seven dump trucks that went up in smoke in the fire. The explosion of their tires caused the explosion noises heard by local residents.
According to La Dépêche du Midithe possibility of arson could not be excluded. According to information from the Toulouse newspaper, two people were seen at the scene of the fire when the fire started thanks to video surveillance images. An investigation was in any case opened by the prosecution to clarify the circumstances of this conflagration.
