“The contact with Jack Miller was a racing incident; we remained stuck at Friday’s level” – Álex Márquez.

Álex Márquez took the final point of the Australian MotoGP GP, crossing the finish line in 15th place. It was a race that started negatively for the Gresini rider, with contact with Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM) delaying him. Then he had to serve a Long Lap penalty which set him back further.

About the contact with Miller, the Spaniard commented: ‘My plan was to make a good start, and I did. But then at the first corner I felt contact at the rear, my racing suit is full of rubber. It’s a racing incident, the first corner is always like this’.

In addition to the annoyances, Márquez also did not have the ideal sensations, as he mentioned: ‘I was in last position, I recovered two or three positions, I did the Long Lap, I was still in last position… so it was difficult. I didn’t find the feeling I wanted. We started the weekend very well, and we got a little stuck at this level’.

The #73 also struggled with the new asphalt at Phillip Island, as well as having its confidence somewhat affected by recent incidents: ‘I still had some difficulties with the new asphalt. The rear was pushing on the front, and I couldn’t get that feeling. Maybe we need to modify the bike more when there is new asphalt. We need to see what exactly is happening. But we are close to taking that step forward again. When you come from many crashes, like in Misano 1, Aragón, Indonesia, it’s not easy to get confidence on a MotoGP bike’.
