“This Saturday, shortly after 11:30 a.m., the gendarmes of the Pont-Sainte-Maxence briage were asked to intervene in a building in Verberie for a man who was allegedly seen attacking another with the help of “a chainsaw,” summarizes the magistrate. On site, a man, covered in blood, presented himself to investigators, claiming to have killed his neighbor using a chainsaw. Upon entering the building, investigators discovered the body of a 77-year-old man, who had just died.”

A man already convicted of aggravated violence in 2019

The alleged perpetrator, aged 30, already convicted of aggravated violence in 2019 and who had completed his sentence, was arrested by the gendarmes and placed in police custody. Accompanied by the forensic doctor on duty from the Judicial Medical Unit (UMJ) of , the prosecutor went to the site at the beginning of the afternoon and immediately opened a flagrant murder investigation which he entrusted to the Senlis research brigade, with the support of the Research Section (SR).

An autopsy will be performed next week.

Criminal investigation technicians from Beauvais carried out observations and surveys at the scene of the alleged crime. “An autopsy of the victim’s body will be carried out at the beginning of the week by the Creil forensic doctors,” explains Loïc Abrial. The Victimes 60 association was contacted by the public prosecutor’s office in order to contact the relatives of the deceased this Saturday and offer them legal and psychological help.”

Jean-Louis Gaillet was killed on his 77th birthday. He was very well known in Verberie where he was president of the festival committee and candidate in the municipal elections.

The suspect remains presumed innocent.
