Rivian, the other American start-up specializing in electric vehicles, is offering a graphics update for Halloween by adding new “car suits” to its vehicles. This will allow the interface to have a display inspired by either the “time machine” of the DeLorean Back to the futureor that of KITT, the star of the series « Knight Rider »known to us as K2000. R1T and R1S vehicles must already have update 2024.39 installed to benefit from the new features, as well as the latest version of the mobile application.

KITT

After selecting in the dedicated applications the Gear Guard dressed as Michael Knight (the name of the hero of the series) to activate it, the system will display KITT’s diagnostics and all indications in a typical 80s digital style, and will broadcast the intro music from the original show. For Gen 2 owners, the exterior light bar will cast a sweeping red beam, just like KITT and exude its iconic scanner sound effect. “wow…wow…wow”. There are some feature differences between Rivian Gen 1 or Gen 2 vehicles: for example, the Gen 1 will not receive the red light beam from the KITT exterior scanner.

To promote its update, Rivian did not hesitate to mobilize David Hasselhoff in person and return iconic scenes from the famous credits where the black Pontiac Transam was speeding against the backdrop of the setting sun.

It’s not the best!

If you choose in the mobile application the Gear Guard disguised as Doc Brown, by selecting “Time Machine” as the car costume, you will not have “2.21 gigowatts” of power but you will see the interior screen display the iconic interface Back to the future with scheduling of travel dates, as well as music and the Time Machine acceleration sound effect from the film. Special effects can be triggered if you press the “88 mph” touch button, the speed at which, in the film, the DeLorean activates the time convector.

Un mode “Sleepy Hollow” ?

The Gear Guard also offers a scarecrow for Halloween which, once selected, triggers the Rivian haunted car costume via the mobile application. This setting has eight different sound effects and three color themes to choose from, ranging from purple, yellow, red and green. This will invade your indoor display screen with static images and ghosts. Gen 1 owners will get a green animation on the exterior of the vehicle, and exclusively for Gen 2 owners, the exterior light bar will reflect the color option you choose, for a wickedly fun experience. Rivian vehicles typically display pedestrians, cars, and cyclists around you on the driver’s display. With the Halloween update, they will now transform into zombies and headless horsemen!
