Lhe peloton of the Tour of Italy heads towards the Dolomites this Wednesday, where the weather promises to be capricious again over the 159 kilometers of the stage between Selva di Val Gardena and Passo Brocon.

The runners will not have time to observe each other, since the start will be given at the foot of Passo Sella (9 km, 7.3%), where many of them will undoubtedly want to go on the offensive. Passo Rolle, Passo Gobbera and two ascents of Passo Brocon are also on the menu for this new mountain stage.

Race tracking

The riders of the Tour of Italy will exceed 2000m today with the Passo Sella after less than 10 km of racing for an explosive start. There will not be a meter of flat ground on this 159 km stage. The runners will cross the finish line at the top of Passo Brocon for the first time, before a final ascent on a new and more demanding slope.

With the cancellation of the first part of the 16th stage which includes the ascent of the Stelvio, the Passo Sella (5.5 km at 6.8%) becomes the Cima Coppi of this 107th edition of the Tour of Italy. 50 points will be distributed at the top for whoever comes first.

Giulio Pellizzari surprised Quintana and easily took the lead at the top of Passo Rolle in front of the Colombian. The peloton got closer on this climb under the impetus of the acceleration of Romain Bardet’s teammates. The peloton reached the summit a minute late.
