Seine-et-Marne: he places a gas bottle in the stolen ambulance and attempts suicide by blowing it up

The worst was avoided Thursday in Nandy, after the madness of an apparently suicidal ambulance driver who wanted to end his life in a spectacular, even explosive way.

It’s around 1:35 p.m. This 40-year-old man has just stolen a Skoda Octavia from the ambulance company where he works in Savigny-le-Temple. He placed a gas bottle in the passenger compartment, on the front passenger seat. His colleagues realized this and immediately informed the police. The message goes on the airwaves to broadcast the alert. A patrol from the accident squad passing by came upon him. The police ordered him to stop but the paramedic refused to comply.

On the D 50 between Savigny-le-Temple and Nandy, he continues his course at full speed, breaks two forest road barriers to enter the Sénart woods, makes a U-turn, zigzags on the 2 x 2 lane and hits another car. Several police crews are tracking him. While he is stopped, the police think they can finally arrest him but he starts again at the last second and hits a police vehicle.

In his mad rush, he ends up getting stuck in a ditch and cannot go any further. The police got out of the car and saw that the driver was leaning near the gas cylinder while trying to light a lighter. There is an emergency because through the half-open window, a smell of gas is already escaping from the car… With heroic composure and courage, two police officers break the car’s windows and pull the desperate man out of the vehicle. .

And they succeed not without difficulty because the paramedic resists and struggles. One of them is injured in the right hand which received cuts and lacerations, undoubtedly linked to the windows they broke, the other has a cut on the forehead. But the worst was avoided.

The man is being held in remote custody at the hospital. He makes incoherent comments typical of a depressed and suicidal person. He is seen by a psychiatrist who pronounces the total abolition of his discernment. His police custody ends, he is automatically hospitalized. The case will not take legal action.
