Météo-France lifted the red rain-flood alert on the night of Thursday October 17 to Friday October 18, but the south-east of the country is still experiencing “exceptional” flooding after significant rainfall.
The end of bad weather? The Alpes-Maritimes, the last department affected by red rain-flood vigilance, returned to orange vigilance at 3 a.m. this Friday, October 18, Météo-France announces
Be careful, however, since the Rhône, Loire, Haute-Loire and Lozère are still on red flood alert.
Concerning the orange alerts in force for the other departments due to heavy rain, they should be lifted in the coming hours, territory by territory until mid-afternoon.
“There was water everywhere”
The rains, which reached 600 to 700 millimeters in certain areas of Ardèche, caused three minor injuries in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. In Paris, a tree fell on a family, whose father did not survive.
In the Ardèche town of Annonay, crossed by two rivers, the waters rose suddenly in the morning when the Ternay dam, to the north, overflowed.
“In the space of ten minutes there was water everywhere,” relates Patricia Montagne who lives in the city center. “It was starting to make waves, and the waterspouts started to arrive”, carrying “staggering quantities of wood”.
The center was closed to traffic, schools evacuated and people rescued by firefighters, sometimes by helicopter.
