Hamas leader Yahya Sinouar was found dead in the Gaza Strip, Israeli media confirmed on Thursday, October 17. Considered by Israel to be the mastermind of the attack of October 7, 2023, he was allegedly killed by the Israeli army in Rafah.
Yahya Sinouar, leader of Hamas and Israel’s number one enemy, was found dead in the Gaza Strip. The rumor had been growing for several hours, following the distribution of a photo on social networks, where we see a body presented as being that of the leader of the Islamist group. The information was finally confirmed by Israeli media on Thursday October 17. Yahya Sinouar was reportedly killed by the Israeli army in Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, in the Tel al-Sultan neighborhood. Three men were initially spotted in a destroyed building. The Israeli soldiers then opened fire with their tank, mortally wounding the Hamas leader.
The announcement of his death caused scenes of jubilation in Israel. Considered by Israel as the mastermind of the attack of October 7, 2023, Yahya Sinouar was hunted by the IDF. But the Hamas leader seemed elusive. He was eventually spotted thanks to information provided by Israeli intelligence services. “The elimination of Sinouar is a clear message to all the families of the victims, to all the families of the hostages: we are doing our utmost to reach all those who harmed you”declared Yoav Gallant, Minister of Defense of Israel.
