“It’s a disaster for me, I had confidence in the procedure, but now I don’t understand anything anymore”. From Saint-Louis de Montferrand, in Gironde, where he lives, Bernard Faye does not try to hide his anger.

The object of his wrath, Dane L., is on the run. However, he is the main suspect in the murder of his daughter Alicia, a 25-year-old from , killed on March 13, 2021 in Cayenne, Guyana. This Wednesday, October 16, for a formal defect, the Court of Cassation released him, under judicial supervision. A release from detention which immediately caused what the victim’s parents feared: the man disappeared, only a few hours after his release.

Alicia Faye, 25, was from Saint-Louis de Montferrand, in the Bordeaux metropolitan area.

Suspected of being at the head of an international drug trafficking network, Dane L. had been in detention since March 21, 2021 along with seventeen other people. The reason justifying this formal defect makes the father of the young victim jump. Indeed, the judgment of the Court of Cassation indicates that “the public prosecutor had notified these lawyers of the date of the hearing before the investigating chamber, (…) to old addresses never communicated in the procedure” . An act which would thus violate the code of criminal procedure and the convention and allowed the release of the suspect.

“What is this story, we release a guy suspected of murder because there is a formal defect, a trifle?“, asks Bernard Faye.

We release him even though we know he’s a big scoundrel. It’s scandalous, I’m disgusted.

I hope they will issue a search warrant, continues Alicia’s father, who thinks that Dane L. had planned his attack. It’s French law, a little thing that differs and we release him. This is starting to make me desperate, even if we have confidence in our lawyers“.

His lawyer, Me Michaël Beulque, recognizes him, “formal defect is strange“. “It was predictable that he was going to run away “, he adds.

Although released, Dane L. was nevertheless subject to strict judicial control in order to “to prevent fraudulent consultation with his accomplices“, “any pressure on witnesses or victims” et “guarantee legal representation of the interested party“.

“He did not have an electronic bracelet and had to go to the police station every day”details Me Michaël Beulque. He won’t even have time. While a hearing was held this Thursday, October 17, at the Cayenne criminal court, for drug trafficking, the main suspect did not appear for his summons. “ He’s the only one who wasn’t there. The other six defendants were present”fumes Michaël Beulque.

He therefore violated his judicial control barely 24 hours after his release.

A release, followed by a flight, two consecutive tragedies for the family of Alicia Faye. “They took everything at once. I thought the father was going to come and hit everyone “, confides, understanding, their lawyer.

The family’s lawyer therefore wrote to the investigating judge to revoke his suspended sentence and issue an arrest warrant. ” This is a person who does not want to appear in court “, assures Michaël Beulque. If the judge goes with the lawyer, Dane L. will be considered a fugitive and wanted.

Thousands of kilometers from her native Gironde, Alicia Faye was a “mule” and transported drugs across the Atlantic to get out of money debts linked to her job loss following Covid. However, his life suddenly ended on the night of March 12 to 13, 2021 in Cayenne, Guyana. In the early morning of this Saturday, his body was discovered in a small path, a 9mm hole in his head. This was her second trip, after a first, a few months earlier where the young woman, cheated by the traffickers, had not received enough money.

In this case, justice has long been singled out for its slowness. The investigating judge, absent for many months, was finally replaced in February 2024, a glimmer of hope for the young woman’s parents, who knew nothing of their daughter’s illegal activity. A hope now extinguished for these parents, thousands of kilometers away, who feel more than ever a feeling of helplessness.
