Distributors are up in arms against Michel Barnier’s finance bill. Discussed in the hemicycle from Monday October 21, the 2025 budget provides a “profit contribution” for large companies which generate more than a million euros in turnover. Certain retail brands which would be affected by these new tax measures and denounce tax manipulation.

“We thought there would be small tax increases and we were ready to make an effort, but here, it’s more than 10 percentage points for certain companies for a sector which is already particularly taxed“, condemns on RTL Layla Rahhou, General Delegate of the Federation of Commerce and Distribution (FCD) which includes Auchan, Leclerc, Carrefour, Monoprix and Decathlon.

This increase in taxation “will probably have consequences on purchasing power and employment“, reveals Layla Rahhou who encourages the Prime Minister to look more towards industrialists. “INSEE figures show that in 2023, that is to say at the heart of the inflationary crisis, the food industry increased its gross margin by 71%“, argues the General Delegate of the FCD.

The latter nevertheless wanted to reassure consumers: “We should not at all expect extremely high food inflation.” Layla Rahhou calls for the law to be amended to allow distributors to better negotiate prices with manufacturers. In particular, it offers return to the supervision of promotions of beauty hygiene products.
