Only ticketing is progressing, otherwise all Ajax revenue lines have fallen in 2024.

There is an obvious form of logic between declining sporting results and declining finances. This is precisely what characterizes the current period that Ajax is experiencing. The Amsterdam club ended its 2023-2024 season with a deficit of 10 million euros net after taxes, according to the figures it communicated.

This follows a previous financial year with a profit of 39 million euros. The fall is brutal, as much as that of men on the ground of truth. Because Ajax, untouchable at the start of the 2020s, remains two seasons without a league title. But above all a complete one without playing in the Champions League. This is what mainly explains the losses generated.

No Champions League and revenues down 23% for Ajax

The illustration is evident in the declared operational income, they are down by 44 million euros over one year, from 196 million in 2023 to 135 million, as of June 30. Profits from transfer window operations also fell by 35 million euros, to 82 million in 2024, with AFC Ajax considered one of the best training clubs in the world.

In detail of product revenues, TV rights bring in 14 million euros (down 59% year-on-year), commercial revenues amount to 76 million euros (-16%), while ticketing is up slightly by 5%, to 53 million euros. To slow down losses, expenses have also been reduced. In particular the payroll which drops by 8% over one year, from 110 million euros to 102 million euros.

The objective, not to say the urgency of the Amsterdam club, is now to find a competitive collective, both effective enough to place it sustainably on the Champions League stage and on the radar of international recruiters, because trading is an integral part of the business of the most successful club in the Netherlands.
