Maxime Prévot: “Bart De Wever will not decide whether I remain mayor of Namur or not”

Maxime Prévot (Les Engagés), re-elected at the head of Namur, does not yet know if he will be mayor in full office throughout the legislature, knowing that he could be called upon to exercise the function of minister at the federal level. But whatever happens, it is not Bart De Wever (NVA) who will decide for him, he said on Monday when presenting the new Namur majority.

“It’s me who will make my decision alone as a grown-up,” said the president of Les Engagés. “I am aware that today I exercise national responsibilities which require me to devote a lot of my energy to trying to provide Belgium with a federal government. But I am neither deaf nor blind and I was very lucid, touched and moved by the strong message sent to me by the people of Namur 24 hours ago. It is therefore an element that will inevitably enter into my equation when the time comes to make a choice. »

“In absolute terms, perhaps the future Prime Minister would appreciate party presidents being inside his team, rather than outside,” he added. “However, I think that we all have different realities and that there should be no imposition in the future federal government. So I still feel like a captain of my choice. »
