This restaurant with a healthy and authentic concept will delight young and old gourmets alike!

At Sage, simplicity reigns: no table numbers, but names of surrounding villages in the entity, and a menu that evolves every week to highlight seasonal products. Three choices are available to you: meat, fish or vegetarian, at reasonable prices, ranging from 14 euros for a starter to 30 euros for main courses. All, of course, focusing on local ingredients and a short circuit, a commitment that is felt on the plate.

The tableware also brings a touch of authenticity: each plate is mismatched, carefully chosen to enhance each dish. This small detail gives the experience a unique, almost intimate character, where you feel that everything has been thought out with taste.

The setting of the establishment is intended to be unfussy, while remaining refined. The atmosphere is refined, with a touch of nature that invites you to relax. Here, the promotion of local products is not limited to the plate: it is also found in the decoration. From the local bottles proudly displayed, to the raw wooden counter, and even the carefully arranged business cards of regional suppliers, everything testifies to a deep love for the terroir.

We opted for chicory confit with whiskey, far from the image of a bland chicory, and a meat dish accompanied by tasty cauliflower. The quality of the products and the mastery of cooking are undeniable. For dessert, Herve’s cheese fritter, accompanied by fig, surprised us. While we were dreading a heavy dish, it turned out to be refreshingly light. The white lady, with her scoop of local ice cream and melting chocolate, reminded us that the classics are sometimes just right.

Special mention for the little wink at the end of the meal: a madeleine offered by the house, which ends the experience on a sweet and subtly almond note.

A small downside, however, is the absence of a food and wine pairing on the menu, a detail which could bring great added value to those less connoisseurs of wine. We also regret the absence of salt and pepper on the table, even if their request remains an anecdotal gesture.

Finally, a surprising thing: the restaurant does not open on Saturdays and Sundays, but offers a brunch every other Sunday, enough to prolong the experience in a more friendly atmosphere. Sage is certainly an address to remember for those looking for simple but sophisticated cuisine, highlighting the local terroir, all in a setting where every detail, down to the plate, contributes to the experience.

What we liked:

  • The work of the team in the kitchen and the promotion of local products
  • Value for money
  • The young, dynamic and smiling team
  • Mismatched tableware, carefully chosen for an authentic touch
  • The warm setting, ideal both for a break during the day and an evening dinner

Points to improve:

  • A website that is a little too succinct, which deserves to tell the beautiful story of Benoît, the manager of the establishment
  • The absence of a proposed bottle of wine in the spotlight each week, or of a food and wine pairing
