The comedy “On Becoming a Guinea Fowl” by director Rungano Nyoni won the Feature Film Prize at the Zurich Film Festival on Saturday. The second grand prize was awarded to Shiori Ito for her documentary “Black Box Diaries” about sexual violence in Japan.

“From the first minute of the film, we are catapulted into a world that has been spectacularly filmed, with incredible music, exquisite sound design and acting performances that take our breath away,” said the jury composed of five people regarding its decision to award a Golden Eye to Rungano Nyoni, announced the Zurich Film Festival (ZFF). The jury also thinks that the Zambian director will conquer Hollywood.

The 2nd Prize goes to Japanese director Shiori Ito. “We were overwhelmed by her resilience, her frankness and her courage to be vulnerable,” the jury said of the documentary. With its “careful editing”, the film unfolds as “a work both sensitive and full of tension”. The film also received the Audience Award.
