A young player was seriously injured during a match held in 2018 on a pitch in Côtes-d’Armor. The fault lies in a lack of maintenance of the stadium. The Côtes-d’Armor Department will have to compensate the victim.

It has been six years since the match took place and in this month of October 2024, Gabriel Pérennez finally obtains compensation. In September 2018, the footballer was the victim of a serious accident during a match: the athlete’s hand was impaled on a poorly oriented hook, screwed to a goal post. The administrative court of (Ille-et-Vilaine) ruled, affirming that the fault lay with the Departmental Council of Côtes-d’Armor, owner of the land.

The events took place on the lawn of the Albert-Camus college, in the town of Grâces (Côtes-d’Armor). In the middle of the match, Gabriel Pérennez is jostled and falls on the pitch. In the movement, a fixed hook, used to hold the fence behind the goal post, pierced his hand. The player had to be urgently transported to the University Hospital Center (CHU) in Rennes for surgery. The victim’s hand had to be immobilized for several months. The footballer lost all sensitivity between the last two fingers of his right hand.

In this year 2024, the young man and his family requested compensation from the Rennes administrative court. He could no longer play football and had to stop his studies for a year, claiming 31,585 euros. At issue: the position of the hook, “oriented towards the interior of the land, which is a lack of maintenance”, commented the public rapporteur. “The positioning of the fence at the location of the accident, i.e. at 1.93 meters, does not respect the minimum distance of 2.5 meters”, provided for by the French Football Federation, was not respected. The Côtes-d’Armor Department will therefore have to pay 13,772 euros to the victim.
