Taiwan: A milestone event celebrated in Port-au-Prince, highlighting cooperation between Haiti and Taipei

The Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Cheng-hao HU, delivered a speech this Thursday, October 10, 2024, during the 113th National Day of Taiwan in Port-au-Prince. It was a significant moment for the Ambassador, since it was his first celebration since his return to Haiti. Guests included Acting Prime Minister Carlos Hercule, several ministers, political figures such as former President Jocelerme Privert, former Prime Minister Evans Paul, and former Minister Marjory Michel, as well as the Governor of the BRH, Jean Ronald Gabriel, and members of the diplomatic corps.

The President of the Presidential Council of the Transition (CPT), Leslie Voltaire, reaffirmed the strong ties that unite Haiti and Taiwan, while Françoise Suzan, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, praised bilateral cooperation, declaring that: “Haiti and Taiwan share unwavering ties strengthened over the years. »

In his speech, Ambassador Cheng-hao HU highlighted Taiwan’s successes in 2024, including its key role in global supply chains and the election of Taiwan’s 16th President, LAI Ching-te. He recalled Taiwan’s commitment to democracy and freedom, despite tensions with China.

Regarding bilateral cooperation, he mentioned the many sectors in which Taiwan supports Haiti, such as energy, education, agriculture and renewable energy. He also encouraged Haitian political actors to work for a better future, emphasizing the importance of returning to democratic order.

Cheng-hao HU concluded by reiterating Taiwan’s commitment to strengthening its ties of friendship with Haiti, in the hope of seeing the two nations prosper together.
