The David Hubert method with Anderlecht: time for defense

The David Hubert method with Anderlecht: time for defense

In five meetings with the Anderlecht first team, David Hubert will have managed to convince the purple management to give him a chance permanently as T1. And to succeed Brian Riemer. But what is Hubert’s connection with the Brussels club?

Two draws and three victories in five matches. David Hubert passed his tests with Anderlecht. Beyond the results, it is above all in terms of defensive stability that the Hubert method has proven itself.

Under his leadership, Anderlecht only concedes 3.8 shots per match compared to 5.9 under Brian Riemer. Obviously, the purple defense took on less water. With three small goals conceded in five games, David Hubert’s men only concede 0.6 goals per match. This also translates into xG level. Anderlecht went from 1.79 xG- to 1.26xG-.

If the defense is much better, it remains to work on the offensive aspect of the Mauves who nevertheless remain on two victories (Real Sociedad and Standard) with a total of five goals scored. With David Hubert on the bench, Anderlecht scored 1.6 goals per match (8 goals in five games).

Possession went from 57.7% under Riemer to 54.4% with the new coach. Anderlecht have a little less possession and also have a little less opportunity. With 5 shots on target per match (25 shots out of 62 in five matches), the Mauves’ record went from 1.43xG+ under Riemer to 1.15xG- under Hubert.

The Hubert method is therefore working for the moment given the results. But it will probably need to be improved. One thing is certain. The new T1 has already brought smiles back to the supporters and its players. And that is already a first victory.
