A sudden return to earth, after three months of decline. The fall in prices started by the RTL basket in February, after the commercial negotiations, was therefore not a trend, but simply temporary promotions. The price of minced meat increased, for example, by 40 cents in May, +5%. For their part, breakfast cereals increased by 2%; + 4 cents. The kilo of carrots costs 10 cents (10% increase).
In total, the 13 everyday products whose development RTL has been following for two and a half years cost 31.67 euros in May. An increase of 49 cents, after three months of decline. The distributors had warned us, deflation is not happening right away.
Only one product contradicts this observation. It is sunflower oil, the only item in our basket that declines regularly. Another 8 cents less this month and even 17 cents less for the distributor brand, or a little more than 7% reduction in price. As a symbol, the liter has just returned to its pre-war price in Ukraine, a first since the start of the RTL basket.
