STVV remains undefeated under Mazzu after a strong comeback against KAA Gent

STVV and KAA Gent ended matchday 10 with a fair draw at Stayen. Both teams scored once, but there could and should have been more. Nobody really gets much out of the draw.

STVV had already been undefeated in six competition matches and also wanted to continue with that momentum against KAA Gent. The Buffaloes, for their part, wanted to close the gap on leader Ghent and remain joint second in the standings.

Felice Mazzu did not have too many reasons to switch. He did choose Ito instead of Yamamoto in midfield. Three changes at KAA Gent: Dean took over his spot up front from Gudjohnsen, Gandelman and Araujo were also new in the starting line-up.

Lots of chances, only Gandelman scores

There could have been goals on either side in the first half, but only Gandelman could shake the net. The Buffalos went into halftime with a narrow lead, STVV knew what to do after coffee.

Zahiroreslam and Bertaccini remained active after the break and it was the latter who managed to score the equalizer halfway through the second half. The Canaries then wanted to continue their momentum.

However, a winning goal was no longer possible and both teams were left with a 1-1 draw. The undefeated series under Felice Mazzu continues for STVV, but the division of points means they remain in the last four.

KAA Gent, for its part, sees Antwerp lead by two points and is now in third place next to Anderlecht, five points behind leader KRC Genk. It will also feel like a missed opportunity for them that they did not win at Stayen.
