AAt least 1,500 people, according to organizers’ figures, gathered Sunday afternoon in Brussels during a memorial ceremony for the Israeli hostages. At the initiative of the Coordination Committee of Jewish Organizations in Belgium (CCOJB) in particular, the gathering was held on the eve of October 7, a year after the unprecedented Hamas attack. The message was intended to be clear: “We will not stop until they all return.”

With palpable emotion, the event began at 4:30 p.m. in Uccle, at the Latour de Freins estate. The CCOJB, BringThemHome Belgium, and the Forum der joodse organizaties (FJO) were among others among the organizers of this “citizen and apolitical” ceremony.

“On October 7, 2023, thousands of terrorists from Hamas and other Islamist groups entered Israel and massacred, tortured, raped and mutilated residents of communities bordering Gaza and young people participating in a music festival, leading to the death of more than 1,200 civilian victims and injuring thousands of people marked for life,” supported the organizers.

On that day, some 251 Israeli hostages – of all ages and nationalities – were kidnapped by Hamas. According to the organizers, “101 hostages are still being held to this day, including two young children, 14 women and 11 elderly people.”
