Caen – Lorient: the summary of the Lorient victory

The match

took the lead, Soumano stumbling on Mandrea (3′) and Kroupi on two defenders, the former Brestois Henry (4′) and Thomas (10′). But FCL’s good start to the match was dampened by Gomis’ goal. Served in depth by Mvila, the striker took advantage of Adjei’s passivity before deceiving Mvogo (18′, 1-0). The start of a sterile domination for the Morbihannais, who confiscated the ball from Nicolas Seube’s players without worrying Mandrea. But the Norman goalkeeper ended up losing with a shot close to the left post from Kroupi, after a perfect tap on Soumano (1-1, 35′). As dominant as ever (67% possession before the break, 55% over the entire match), FCL nevertheless conceded the last opportunity of the first half to Kyeremeh, but Mvogo intervened (44′).

The appearance did not change in the second half. Lorient insisted on its right side thanks to overflows and crosses from Katseris, but Mandrea and the Caen defense believed they could hold on to the Breton determination to score a second goal. Discreet on Saturday, the former Guingampais and Brestois Alexandre Mendy sent a shiver through the Lorient defense with a pivotal strike which flirted with Mvogo’s goal (82′), but the “super substitute” Bamba, coming off the bench, emerged to give victory to the Lorientais. The Ivorian pushed Traoré into a mistake before challenging and deceiving Mandrea (1-2, 87′).

The players

He is the man in good shape on the Lorient side! Author of a double against AC (3-0) a week earlier, Eli Kroupi did it again in Caen on Saturday. His three goals in two games (4 in total this season) brought valuable points to the FCL, but his complementary association with Soumano is even more valuable for the rest of the season. An anchor point higher up the pitch, Soumano offers freedom of movement to Kroupi who enjoyed it in Caen. Olivier Pantaloni left his current scorer on the pitch as long as possible, preferring to replace Soumano and Ponceau (by Mvuka and Bamba) after the hour mark. Kroupi came off in the 76th minute, replaced by Tosin.

Ranking

Three points and a nice jump in the standings for the Lorientais after their success in Caen. The FCL moved back to second place, overtaking (3rd), (4th), (5th) and Guingamp (6), heavily beaten in Clermont (4-1) this Saturday afternoon. Lorient is two points behind the leader, FC, after eight days and will host Annecy on Saturday October 19 after the international break.
