Two days before the first anniversary of the Hamas attack in Israel, the French president announces “several initiatives to show that we have forgotten nothing.”

Although he did not specify the details, he indicated that he would speak with the relatives of Franco-Israeli hostages, but also with “the families of the victims living in ”.

Since the Francophonie Summit organized between Villers-Cotterêts and , he reaffirmed that the ceasefire in Gaza was “a priority”.

As October 7 approached, he “a very special thought for the families of victims and hostages”. Emmanuel Macron “will himself receive in Paris the families of Franco-Israeli hostages and the families of victims living in France”he said during a speech at the Grand Palais this Saturday as part of the Francophonie Summit, organized this year in France. “We stand in solidarity with the security of Israel”recalled the Head of State, who “will take several initiatives to show that we are not forgetting anything.”

Barrot will be in Israel on Monday

He did not detail further what would be put in place on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel which caused the deaths of 1,205 people, the majority civilians. Emmanuel Macron adds that Jean-Noël Barrot, his new Minister of Foreign Affairs, will go to Israel at his request this Monday. “He will receive, with a message from me, the Franco-Israeli families of victims”he specifies. Reaffirming what he had already declared earlier on France Inter, the French president underlines the need to “consistency” which pushes him to plead for an end to arms deliveries to Israel that are used in Gaza. “We try not to ask for a ceasefire while continuing to deliver the weapons of war”he said.

“I confirm to you that I consider that the ceasefire in Gaza is a priority to allow humanitarian actions to resume full time and also to allow us to work on the political solution which alone will ensure peace and security for all, with the two States at stake“, he declared again. The 88 members of the International Organization of La Francophonie, including France, Canada and Belgium, also called “unanimously” to a cessation of fighting “immediate and lasting” in Lebanon, another member of the OIF.
