Intensification of the conflict, with attacks in the area close to Beirut airport, postponing the return of the first Brazilians planned by the Brazilian Air Force

Bombings near Beirut airport caused the FAB (Brazilian Air Force) to postpone the arrival of the KC-30, scheduled for 10am (Brasília time) this Friday (Oct 4, 2024). The delay affects the repatriation operation of Brazilians who want to leave Lebanon, postponing the first flight by at least 24 hours.

The KC-30 departed from Galeão Air Base, in Rio de Janeiro, and arrived in Lisbon on Wednesday morning (2.Oct.2024). On board are two crews, including pilots, mechanics, flight attendants and a health team with doctors, nurses and psychologists to serve the repatriated Brazilians.

The aircraft is awaiting clearance from the Lebanese authorities in Lisbon to continue its journey. The KC-30 plans to carry out the operation in Beirut with one of the crews, keeping the other in Portugal. After passengers, animals and luggage have boarded, the aircraft will return to Portugal, where there will be a crew change and refueling for the flight back to Brazil.

This is the 1st phase of the Brazilian government’s effort to repatriate its citizens – whose community numbers 21,000 people – in Lebanon during the conflict. The KC-30 is used in strategic actions, logistical support and humanitarian missions, such as the repatriation of Brazilians from conflict areas.

The situation in Lebanon remains tense, with the conflict between Israel, Hamas and Hezbollah. The Brazilian government, through the FAB, reinforced “its commitment to the safety of citizens, adapting to local conditions to ensure safe repatriation.”
