A day to prevent malnutrition in Labahou

The edition of DiacoCare, a national event organized in all fifty establishments of the Diaconesses of Reuilly around the theme of prevention.

The Labahou nursing home has chosen to focus on the prevention of malnutrition, and to offer a day open to all to raise awareness among residents, families and professionals about this major issue with a motto “Let’s rediscover the pleasures of the table!”

In the morning, a round table made up of professionals (geriatrician, dietician, psychologist, occupational therapist, cook) discussed questions of food, nutrition and balanced diet, preventive actions, etc., and answered questions from the twenty participants. After this fruitful exchange, everyone was invited to a buffet. The buffet menu focused on the concept of hand-eating, an approach promoting residents’ autonomy and facilitating food intake. A convivial moment which allowed everyone to enjoy healthy dishes adapted to the needs of seniors: verrines of vegetables to drink, petit fours, canapes, cakes and soufflés, skewers of cheese, fruit, pana cota and pastries delighted the hundred of guests.

To end the day, a cooking competition was organized at the instigation of the host. Today’s challenge, revisit the famous chocolate-caramel tart. The residents became a jury and elected the best creation based on visual and taste criteria. A great moment of sharing which aroused enthusiasm and good humor.

The pleasure aroused by this time of sharing around the kitchen was such that an appointment has already been made for a Christmas log competition.
