During the night from Saturday to Sunday, three people died in a road accident in Fredericton, two of them were teenagers.

During a press briefing organized on Monday, the city’s police chief gave more details regarding the accident and the victims, who are a 16-year-old girl, a 17-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man.

Two other teenagers, a 16-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, were injured. The boy, in serious condition, had to be airlifted to hospital IWK from Halifax. The young girl was treated for less serious injuries.

Their identities have not been released at this time. Chief Martin Gaudet said investigators are trying to determine who was driving at the time of the crash.

The speed involved

The incident happened around 1 a.m. Sunday at 700 Douglas Avenue, a residential neighborhood in north Fredericton.

Police who were patrolling the area due to complaints from residents about speeding reportedly asked a speeding vehicle to pull over, but it did not stop.

Shortly after, they were called to the scene of the accident.

According to Martin Gaudet, the car hit the curb before flying off and hitting another parked vehicle, in which there were four adults, none of whom was seriously injured.

The speed at which the vehicle was traveling was not released.
