“I didn’t think about it at all at the start of the season”: barring disaster, Verlaine Louis Jamar will finish top scorer in D2 ACFF

A headed goal from a corner in the 84th minute. A penalty goal in the 80th. This Sunday, against Ganshoren, Verlaine Louis Jamar once again got the ball rolling and scored another double. “It’s always fun to help the team”, comments the main interested party, rather happy with the performance of his team against the Brussels residents. “We were well organized. We defended well. All this, against a great team.” And then, he is happy to have equalized after being led twice. “Lately, the opposite has happened to us. We lead, and then get caught or even overtaken.”

And with this new double, the Verlaine goalkeeper brings his number of league goals to 23. With one match remaining at the end of the season, he therefore has three more goals than Tournaisien Destrain and Rochefortois Cornet. So, barring a catastrophe, he will finish as the top scorer in D2 ACFF at the end of the final match, which will see Mourad Lacchab’s men challenge RAEC Mons at Tondreau. “Normally, it should be fine. But if I don’t end up top scorer, it won’t be a tragedy either.”

Especially since this title of top scorer was not really an ambition for Louis Jamar. “It doesn’t really surprise me because I had already finished top scorer. But I didn’t think about it at all at the start of the season.” Besides, the season got off to a pretty bad start. “I injured my ribs before the start of the championship. I played the first matches in pain.” And playing in such circumstances is not easy. “II don’t think I scored a single goal in the first six games of the season. But then, it became unblocked.”

A quadruple against Stockay, a double against Mons…

And when we ask Louis Jamar what his best memories as a scorer this season are, “which has not always been obvious”, he retains two. “The first is my quadruplet against Stockay. We win 4-2 at home. It was a great time.” There was also this match against Mons, which was nice. “I score two goals. It was also at home. If I could score a double again on Sunday against them, that would be great. But it seems difficult to me. Mons will probably play hard and will want to celebrate their title in front of their supporters.”
