Guest on 2, Michel Barnier declared that around 300 companies, those whose turnover represents at least 1 billion euros, would be affected by a tax increase.

The government is working on the final decisions for the 2025 budget. Anxious to straighten out the public accounts, the executive intends to call on very large companies by relying on the tax lever.

Invited this Thursday evening on France 2, Michel Barnier confirmed that an “exceptional effort” would concern companies with at least 1 billion euros in turnover, refuting, however, that they are preparing a “fiscal shock”, as some accuse. .

“Targeted” and “temporary”

“There will be no fiscal shock,” said the Prime Minister. This tax increase will be “targeted”, “exceptional” and “temporary” and will apply to the “largest French companies”, whose turnover reaches or exceeds 1 billion euros. “This is not the case (…) of the vast majority of the 4 million companies (…) which make France live,” he assured, estimating that very large companies “can agree to do this effort” which will be “exceptional”.

This additional “effort” represents 300 companies,” declared Michel Barnier on the set of France 2.

Assuring that it would be temporary, the head of government assured that “this time will be fixed in the law”. “It will be a year and maybe two years,” he said, recalling, however, that it would be necessary to obtain the agreement of Parliament for it to be implemented. “It will be recorded when it is voted on,” he said.
